There's a special kind of thrill that comes from getting off the beaten path. Maybe it's the perfect line on a bike trail, the quiet sound of a fishing line hitting the water, or the view from a remote campsite that took a tough hike to reach.

This thread is all about celebrating those places. Whether it's for off-roading, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, or something completely different, let's share the spots that make you feel alive.

What’s a location that brings you pure joy?

We understand the need to protect our wild places, so there’s no pressure to give up your secret coordinates. A story or a general description of a great spot is perfect. The goal is to share the spirit of adventure.

Other than the fishing and shooting sports, probably working on cars has always been one of my most enjoyable pastimes. Just one of the reasons I like DW's Prius. It has been giving me some real pleasure lately.

The northern woods of Maine.
The golden road offers the ability to vanish away from everyone and everything, as soon as you leave that road.
Brook trout and partridge galore, with bear everywhere you go.
All one needs, is protection against the black flies in the spring/summer and protection from the freezing temps of winter.
Nothing better for my younger self.

I've bear hunted at Loon Lodge, about a 2hr drive from civilization on the Golden Road. It is definitely God's Country. One of my favorite parts of the trip is the drive in on the Golden Road. We've seen lots of moose and bear on the ride in. Would love to make it back there a few more times while my mind and body still allow!

Northern Michigan East of Glennie is where my heart and mind travel to these days. I am deep into retirement and slow moving now, I had my days, and they were spectacular. I bought a cabin in the woods on AuSable impoundment, Cooke Pond, held it for 25 years but it became a chore for me, so it had to go. I would recommend to anyone to spend some time in the area.
