Default First Fly Fishing Lesson

My wife won a charity auction prize that included dinner, wine tasting, and a fly fishing lesson.

We attended the event last night with 3 other couples. It was my first time ever holding and using a fly rod, even though I've been fishing for 35+ years. What fun! Competely different than anything I've done before. I can see why it is so addictive. We fished a private pond in Wood County near the Maumee that was stocked with bass and bluegills, and the black dry flies were just the ticket. I got to borrow a nice Sage Rod with Orvis reel (don't know the model), and learned to cast, strip, haul; as well as how not to "puddle" and "wind knot" (unfortunately, LOL!).

I don't know if Dave Shearer, of the North Branch Boys, is on this forum, but I'd like to say thanks for the great intro to the sport!

That's pretty cool! I have been wanting to take a casting class too. Welcome to the FLY family.

That's an awesome prize to win! I too just recently started fly fishing. Had my first "lesson" a couple weeks ago from a buddy and it has been the only way I've wanted to fish since. It's VERY addicting! I have a feeling all my spinning gear is going to start getting really dusty...

When it comes to fishing, That long fly rod might as well be a heroin needle. So very addictive, and you'll find yourself selling off possessions to buy more rods, flies, etc. We're just lucky potential employers don't test for fly fishing as a pre employment stipulation.
