Default Looking for crappies...

...and found some bass instead. Can't complain too much, I caught a few nice fish, two different SE Ohio public lakes. I also spotted some small carp in one lake, targeted about 8-10 different fish before I had to take off and had 0 takes. One fish turned on the fly, looked to put his nose right on it and rejected it.

Also had a few fat gills atack small streamers.

Crappies are most likely found in the morning, dusk, and of course night They hate sunlight!

I know, but sometimes you have to fish when you have time to fish.

I know all too well what you mean. We're going to Lake Chatauqua in a couple of weeks. I'm going to make a point to start fishing a bit before dusk for several hours at least once. When you find them you're in them almost every cast. All over 10 inches.

I have them pretty well nailed down on this one lake as far as when they move in shallow, pre-spawn, and the really big crappies can be found very shallow. Unfortunately I couldn't fish for almost 2 weeks, mostly because of work, right in the prime time, and I fear I have missed them for the spring. I've got them at this place over 16" a few times, dozens of Fish Ohio's, all on the fly.
