Guess I started too early. My tomatoes are about 4" tall and leafing out very well. My pepper plants are about 2" tall and starting to leaf out. I started a couple peas at the same time as the tomatoes and peppers. Maybe that was a mistake, I may have peas before I even get them in the ground, LOL. Been leaving everything outside except for the nights with freezing temps. Looks like Ill be bringing them in tonight too. Plan on getting my lettuce, green beans and more peas in tomorrow.

I think bells take longer to sprout, but develop a good root before coming up. I thinned mine yesterday, and the root was about 1.5 inches long but these only came up last week. I planted some jalapeņos and Italian sweets yesterday. I put some in large pots that I'm going to leave out on the porch. We'll see how that goes.

I planted about the same time as you. My beefsteak and steak tomatoes are about 3" tall, the yellow pear seeds from last year are about 2"

Lettuce planted directly outside is about 1-2" average. I put in some red and spinach yesterday so I'd have a continuing harvest of greens.

I just moved here, and the house has a small strawberry patch which is blossoming already.

Blackberry bushes are showing signs of blossoms as well.

Emptied my compost bin & fire pit on Monday. Spread the ashes & compost on the garden & flower bed. It wore me out. Cucumbers have sprouted. Only have to start Sunflowers, Zucchini and Mini-Pumpkins,

Planted a few Canna's this week.

Mixed Sugar liquid for my 4 Hummingbird Feeders yesterday and put them out. Chickadees are making a nest in one of my gourds next to the house. Still no rototilling eventho I'm itching to do so.

Put a few Dahlia's and Geraniums in the cold frame on Monday. Cold nightime temps still scare me.

... Watchin' the MASTERS on TV.

Cold daytime readings and freezing night-time temps this week (April 8-14) aren't helping our green thumb passions. Yard work and lawn chores have been somewhat thwarted too. Hate it!

Working on constructing a flagstone walkway in the back. Worked periodically outside yesterday (Tuesday 4/10), but didnt lift a shovel today.

Tomato's & Peppers are 2" high. A flat of cucumbers are 1' high. Just started a flat of Sunflowers today and a dozen Zucchini's (Weds April 11).

Come on Spring.

The cooler weather has slowed growth a lot on all but the lettuce. I'm going to get a couple lights to help thing along. Supposed to warm up this week, which should help too.

I repotted the larger tomato plants, and a few are losing their seed leaves finally. Peppers are slow going.

This is the first year that things from seed are going well for me since I started gardening three years ago!

Thursday, May 3rd:

My first potato patch has been planted. Harvested some asparagus. Lost strawberry plants to the freeze.

Currently battling a severe chest cold. Went to the Dr./Rx yesterday. TG it's not Strep. I've missed a few days work and wont go in tonight either. Taking Amoxycilin & a mini inhaler at the moment.

All of my veggie plants are out of the basement and "hardening off".
Antsy to plant annuals outdoors. Planted some sunflowers outside yesterday. Considering planting cucumbers and zucchini outdoors too, but am still a little leery of doing so.

ANYBODY PLANT ANNUAL VEGGIES OR FLOWERS OUTDOORS YET?

None other than greens. Been eating salads with homegrown lettuce for almost a month now. The peppers are shooting up in the sunroom with this warmer weather. I'm not terribly worried about frost, but my new house seems to enjoy more hail and strong winds than my old one. The hail just shredded any leaves, small plants, etc. Almost destroyed my outdoor lettuce. I cut and ate the damaged parts before they browned, and the plants rebounded. I have a few large pieces of tree (12" dia) that came down, and the forest floor vegetation was flattened by the wind!

I will most likely wait til the weekend of the 19th to transplant.

(Seems I might be hijacking your thread, sorry!)

Guy at work just brought in some plants for me: 2 Anaheim peppers, 1 red bell, 2 yellow bell, 1 rutgers tomato, 2 homestead tomato, 2 golden jubilee tomato. Now I just have to find a place to plant them!

I thinned out my lettuce so I had space for the extra plants. Being my first try at greens, I planted way too much, not expecting each seed to produce so much. I am also hoping that the shade provided will get my spinach back on track. It doesn't seem to like too much sun. No pic of this, but I'll get one tonight. I just put in one each of the free plants and gave the rest to a friend who underestimated how much space she had in her garden.

Pic of my little plot, with steak, yellow pear, beefsteak, and some volunteers. Peppers are furthest from camera.

You all are way ahead of me this year.
Been on the road too much this month. Saturday I got the zucchini and squash planted (13 mounds), 24 watermellon in 12 mounds planted (sugar baby and crimson scarlet) and 3 rows of Silver Queen in.
Saturday morning I'll start getting the tomatos in the ground. That will be some work as I keep outdoing my self everyyear and expanding. I got 144 plants this year. 2 flats of Roma and 1 combined flat of Golden Jubilee, Hillbilly and Beefsteak.
Have around 12 peppers, chili, cayanne and jalapeno that also need planting.
Then fill in the rest of the garden with more rows of Silver Queen.

Here is the way I planted the other peppers and tomato. I figure that the lettuces will be gone by the time plants are big enough to shade out the greens, or the greens will benefit from the shade in the higher temps to come. Anyone else plant densely like this?

So how is everyone's garden doing? We need some pics like last year's thread. Watered yesterday (again) Too much watering this year. We need rain for the garden and the area reservoirs!!!

Tomatoes.

Part of the Silver Queen corn, two types of watermelon under the black plastic trash bags and the yellow squash and zucchini.

The tomatoes are finally established and growing. This weekend I will start staking them.
