I've recently gotten into geocaching these last few months and am loving it. It's good exercise and gives us an excuse to get out and do some hiking in some unusual spots. When we go on day trips we make a point of hitting up a couple caches while either on the road or once we get to our destination. The first time we went out we used the Garmin GPS and waiting until we got home to log everything, now we have the geo app on our iphones and can use that for everything from finding caches close by to using the gps and then finally logging the find.
My family and I were pretty heavily involved a couple years ago but nowadays we might get out and find a few here and there. Definitely something I miss doing and can be lots of fun for families especially kids.
I walked past these things and never even knew it! lol I will check um out next time

I did it years ago when I first found out about it....was a lot tougher then because the hand held units weren't nearly as good as current models.
I just recently started doing it with my 5 yr old son after work in the evenings and he really likes it. He likes to find the large caches which are usually pretty easy so it works. He has found 26 since we started in May; mostly along the bike trails and in public parks/schools.

You will be shocked to find out there are dozens to hundreds in most areas...likely within walking distance. And this community that exists right under your nose. My son and I found a real neat 2 liter plastic bottle (not blown up) cache hidden inside the base of a parking lot light. At 4 years old he was shocked when I lifted the cover and the tube fell out - priceless! Be sure to watch for Muggles.LOL
