Default If u had one maumee river location to suggest...

Not looking for anybodys honey hole or anything...but I want to catch some smallmouth darn it. I fish the Sandusky river in tiffin all the time but it's getting old catching 8-14 inchers...and I know the maumee has some of those too, but I also know I has a hell of a lot more "quality" smallmouth than the Sandusky.

I've never fished the river though...really don't even k ow the area...but I'm confident I know what type of spots in the river will work once I get there. Just looking for a starting spot.

So if anyone would be so kind as to recommend a spot, I would be thrilled.

And a follow up...kind of silly but I usually fish middle of the day...and on the sNdusky I do well...but will middle ofthe day work on the maumee too?

I know the general rule is fish early...but it's not going to be am option unfortunately.

I've never had any luck on the Maumee in the middle of the day. Mornings or late afternoon I've had pretty good luck but between 11am-4pm I usually have alot of reading time . The Maumee/Perrysburg area down to Waterville should be some good spots for bass though I've never fished for them myself although I have caught a few on just a worm.

Bluegrass island and miltonville access are good spots for big smallies. Both may produce during midday but I don't usually fish then

Miltonville will produce smaller fish (7-10").
I might try Weir Rapids or just below the dam at Grand Rapids for larger fish.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. Made it up to bluegrass today and tried things out. Pretty slow for a while. Finally managed 2 sheephead, 2 dink largemouth, a big carp, and one nice smallmouth.

All were caught on a white tube believs it or not, even the carp.

Now I guess my question is do you guys catch fish on the deep water/rapids side of bluegrass? Or on the calm backwaters by that park (sidecut I think it's called). I didn't even have a bite on the big river side and then caught all fish on the side close to the park. The current just moves so darn much on the one side that i didn't even know how to fish it.

Again, thanks for your suggestions.

You can fish both. The water is up a bit now. When it's up u can get some nice ones on the park side. When the water is lower u can walk from bluegrass to buttonwood. Hit the holes on the way. I usually have better luck below the rapids anywhere. Sometimes u can get them out of the top of rapids as well.

Wow that would be great deathfromabove. Could you bring me some beer too so I have something to drink while I watch you fish? Also, if you catch some sheephead like i did, can you filet them for me and make me a delicious maumee river dinner?

Thanks for extending the olive branch.

Rooster tails for Smallmouth??!?!?!?! I would have never thought of that!

There are tons of smallies all over maumee river, Orlando, you should not have any trouble finding any.
