Should be a VGA port out the back... "should be", not sure what you have, but every one I've ever owned does. You might have to push a key or two on the keyboard to turn it on.

should work, just hook it up. I've had several laptops that have had the monitor/backlight/entire screen go out but display a perfect image when hooked up to an external monitor.
the button or two will be the function key and often times f4 or f5.
what you are looking for in most cases is a key with "a little screen with brackets around it". Hit it in conjunction with the "Function" key and usually that sends the output to the connected monitor.
