Default The ol' "weight slip" question

I'm in Strongsville. I got another boat, out of state, with just a Bill of Sale notarized and made up for it, as they don't have trailer paperwork in that state.

Where in the Cuyahoga county area can I get a weight slip? The ID tag on this Calkins single axle trailer has faded to where it's un-readable, so I guess I have to go the "Homemade" route, and I think the whole rig is under 3000 pounds, boat, motor and trailer.

thanks

Yeah; that is one of the issues. I gotta do the "Homemade" routine, I guess, and don't wanna pay for a 2800 pound "trailer", if I have the boat weighed on it. I'll have to launch somewhere and then zip over to get a weight slip, and do it that way, I guess.

I only have a Bill of Sale. There's no visible printing on the tag (it's a Calkin's, about 1988 model), so a VIN isn't possible to find. Also, the trailer was in MI, and they don't require Titles there.

I'm dealing with this myself. The lady at the DMV (rude as all get out as well), said that most places with scales can factor in a boat/motor. I have a rough idea of what my boat and motor weigh (around 1000lbs give or take). Wish they just had you buy tags by trailer length and not weight for boats.

I'm thinking of having a boat repair shop off-load the boat onto blocks, then going and getting the weight slip, then picking the boat back up on the way home. Hopefully, they won't charge me an arm and a leg (I did this once while I replaced hardware on a boat trailer, and it worked out okay).

I must have talked to the same lady. She told me the same thing. I am in the process of buying a boat in Michigan. I got on several websites to find out the weight of the boat, motors, gas(6.2lbs per gallon). I am up to 1484 lbs. Hopefully, they will subtract this and the weight of the trailer will be close. My trailer has a tag, but it isn't legible. Yeah, you are right...why not go by length...it would be a lot easier. Gonna try that place on Brookpark Rd. when I get the boat, hopefully in a week or so.

I am a fairly regular customer of Valley City Builders' Supply, in Valley City. They have a certified scale, and I got the boat weight from the NADA info, and the motor weight, too, and added 200 pounds for batteries, fuel and gear. Then, when they weighed it, they subtracted my weight estimate from the total, and gave me a "Weight Slip".

At the Strongsville BMV, it was no problem, then, to get the Registration.

Good Luck.
