Looking for any information on steelhead fishing out of the Lorain area. Has any one been steelhead fishing in the past week? Usually I fish the Wheatley area this time of year, but reports are terrible and not worth the drive. Plan on fishing Friday out of Lorain/Steelhead or LSC/Musky. Thanks for any reports. Tim
We went out to the 45/06 area last sunday and tried for steel head. All we got that was silver was a bunch of white bass. We also got a few walleyes, just eaters.
It's a good 20 mile run slightly NE of Avon Point if I remember right. Very close to Canadian line. Runs about 75 to 80 feet deep out there. Very well may hold some fish.
It's marked on a Hots Spots Central Basin map. Kind of in the general direction of Wheatley
Went to the hole today. Friend has offshore boat and lake was flat. 29 mile run. 30 seconds in...rigger down 55. Steelhead. Fish was pretty lethargic. Long time before next fish was a walleye. A few junk fish. Lost a nice steelhead 100 feet behind boat. Not long after lost steelhead at back of boat. Buddy swung and missed with net. Both fish caught at 50 down. 1 active fish 1 lethargic fish. No to probe so not sure about temp. Just beat storm off lake. Guessing very warm way down.
Thanks for the report fbcoach, I'll be offshore out of Eastlake this sat. pm or sun am chasing chrome if anyone wants to communicate, pm or on ch 68. I gots d probe, will report results and temp.
Went to Wheatley yesterday. 3 man limit. Ran 9 miles east to windmills. From 9 to 12 we went 3 for 4 steel 5 walleyes 100 white bass. Went 5 more miles east and in 50 minutes went 9 for 11 on steel finishing with a double. Had a near triple earlier. Went 12 for 15 in end and scrambled to get Rods out of water. One friend had conservation license so could only keep 2. 67 feet of water...water is 74 degrees all the way down to 63 feet. Fish were a little sluggish but came up. Riggers set 45 and 50...15 and 25 foot leads. #1 dipsey braid 125 back 3 setting and wire 105 back. Steelie Stomper...Monkey Puke...Watermelon all silver spoons.
2 of us went up yesterday too and started shallower but probably ended up in the same area as fbcoach in 67' of water. After boxing our limits we pulled the 2 diver rods and fished only 2 riggers so we could shift to neutral and fight the fish on a drift to release them with pliers over the side of the boat.
Overall in 3 hrs in that area we went 21-30 on black/purple, Marc Bodi's custom green/copper (I call it Marc's Mauler) and another custom taped of mine orange/chart on hammered gold. Also caught 6 'eyes. Riggers 47'-57' and 3 setting divers on braid 150'.
