Backpacking Allegheny Nat'l Forest early October
... am planning a week of backpacking on the Allegheny National Forest, NW Pa along the North Country Trail & Allegheny Reservoir.,
Not doing a ball-busting 6-10 mile per day excursion..,strictly a gray-beard/turtle type backpacking trek.
Will most likely trek from St Rt 321(South of Tracey Ridge) to base camp at Handsome Campgrounds.. Only a 2hr, 3mile trek.
Anybody interested, contact me,

That's a great area. If you need some good info on that area go to grizzlygary.com and ask those guys. They're are a good group of outdoorsmen who know every inch of that area.

I love going up there, it's so beautiful. I'll be up that way this weekend. Not camping or any serious hiking though, just doing a one day fishing run and staying over the families camp just outside the ANF.
Have fun!

Thinking it's gonna be an early autumn due to the dry conditions and the foliage won't last long at all.
Maybe Sept 30-Oct 6

Leaving Saturday Oct 6th with a maximum stay until Friday, Oct12th. 4 guys are definite with a handful of "maybe's". Have mixture of gray-beards and flat-bellies including one 'newbie". Will be hiking well established trails including the North Country Trail. One guy will be breaking camp on Monday b/c he has to work Tuesday, Oct 8th.
Only backpacking from St Rt 321 to basecamp at Handsome Lake Campgrounds along the shoreline of Allegheny Reservoir... about 3 miles. Will be taking freeze-dried meals such as Backpacker Pantry and Mountain House. Will be taking our fishing gear too and hopefully have a freshly caught dinner.
Anybody else interested, contact me. You're welcome to join.

As of Tuesday, 9/11, we have 6 guys committed to go. All are getting their gear organized and ready to go.
Let's hope the weather is good, otherwise that Kinzua area can be brutal with northerly storms.
Will post pics and a trip report.
Invitation still open for others.

FYI: The town of Sheffield is having their Johnny Appelseed festival. Woodsman competition and small town festival that weekend too.
