Default common cents weight check

Recently bought a custom 6'6" fiberglass 3wt rod. (Lamiglas blank)

Spooled a wf3f line on the reel and the rod seemed really overlined to me.

Picked up a dt2f line today and spooled it on another reel to try this evening.
Took it to the local lake and the rod did much better (actually able to get about a 35' cast out fairly easily), but the more line out the more sluggish the rod began to feel again.

Came home and measured the ERN using the common cents method and got an ERN of 1.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy a 1wt line if I want distance from this rod.

I did manage to catch several 'gills during the casting session, so the trip was fun despite the casting limits.

How far are you wanting to cast? Seems 35-50' would be ideal for a 3 wt, 6'6" fiberglass rod. Lamiglass I believe is e-glass so they are quite a bit slower than faster fiberglass like s-glass and certainly alot slower than graphite.

A 50' cast would be nice, but I believe it's beyond the limits for this rod in my hands. This rod has a very slow action and bends to the cork even when pushing a 35' cast.

What did impress me was the ability to easily push out a roll cast with it. A 25' cast rolled out very smoothly with the dt2f line, and in a lot of places I fish that will do the job.

Still, (I guess it's always a question in the back of my mind) the old "what if I could just get the fly out just a little farther?" is there.
