Do you know where you're staying? I've always stayed in Palmetto Dunes and know of some good spots that have produced red fish and sea trout for me but other than Palmetto Dunes haven't been anywhere else. Surf fishing has been sub par the past couple times I've been there. I always bring a casting net and catch fresh mullet and throw them out there. I've only been able to catch small sharks and a couple small blue fish doing that though. If it's Palmetto Dunes I'll show you all the good spots

I wish I had seen this post last week, sorry. I've been fishing HHI every year since I was a kid and I've got a really good custom map of the place made. If anyone else heads down there, send me a PM and I'll email it to you. Since I am a week late, how did you do down there?

We just got back on Saturday. I did not fish. I did a lot of driving around before the kids got up looking at spots to fish.
I went to shelter cove and watched a charter with 2 guys catch some redfish at the tubes as the water was being let out. I talked to the captain from shore and he gave me some good info. Just on the other side of the access road there were probably 100 redfish cruising in the brackish water. It would have ben like shooting fish in a barrel, but I don't think you can fish it.
I also ventured down into sea pines and several marinas to check out the fishing boats. Seems everyone has twin or trip suzuki's or Yamahas on their boats.

I don't think I'm really interested fishing the ocean from shore. I would like to fish the other areas of the island.
t looked nice
Warehouse, I did check out that pond at the end of shelter cove mall rd. It was fairly open on the end, tough to get to along the sides.
Next year I would like to fish Palmeto dunes. The kids will be older and it will be easier to get out. Also, I should have a kayak by then.

Default HHI This Week

We are in Hilton Head this week and have caught a few whiting and one small flounder from shore. Kayaking some seagrass and from the bridges we have caught some small blues. Unfortunately no redfish or anything exciting from the kayaks.

Any suggestions on any locations to try? Warehouse, would you mind sending me that map of yours?

Thanks!

Doh, just say your post 5/28 and might have missed you down there. I'll send you a PM with the map and 2 spots you should definitely check out. Live shrimp in the kayaks might be the ticket for those reds according to my friend down there...but you usually have to buy them off the island.
