Ohio creek Activity

Well guys it is that time of the year, time for those creeks to start heating up. We have been out this week a few times, and from the first trip to the one we just got back from, the water and the smallmouth activity has changed for the better. The fish are starting to get into the swing and starting to get their feed on so to say, we have been able to hook into 12 smallmouth over this week. What we are seeing in the creeks right now is that they are sticking close to structure where the current sweeps by about 2 to 3 feet off to either side, with water ranging from 2-5 feet deep. We have been working a soft plastic jig, we use bitsy tubes or strike king rodent, but a lot of other plastic out there will do the job as well. Even though the fish are starting to hit more and the water is heating up, still have to work it really slow. They are not chasing moving baits with aggression, at least not in the creeks we are in, but they are hitting like trucks when they hit. We did catch 2 smallmouth today that are staring to show round bellies, so we all know what that means... won't be long til our creek fish will spawn. Now not all smallmouth spawn at the same time, so check your creeks and see where your smallies are in the spawn cycle. If you all have not yet been in your creeks, I would say the time is now. Get out there and have some fun, hope this helps someone out there or at least makes you want to try a creek out this year. Good luck to you all!

Hey guys great report! I've seen a lot of your videos on youtube and left a few comments about getting together to hit the creeks sometime. You know me as apmpunk02. I live in the Florence area of Northern KY and have been to the creek a few times in the past week. The water has been in the mid 50's and the smallies are finally coming to life. I posted a video in the Out-of-State section called "Northern KY creek report/video". Check it out. PM me and we'll set up a time to get together and chase the smallies! Tight Lines to ya!Posted 04-06-2012 at 09:45 PM by BassAddict83
